Desert Flame
Desert Flame has pulled up good from her race on Sunday and will start trackwork again tomorrow. Her race report video is above.
Desert Flame successfully passed her barrier trial today at Canberra. She was strong to the line and pulled up good. We plan to nominate her to race at Moruya on the 19th. Please click above for her trial report video including her rider’s comments.

Desert Flame is entered to barrier trial at Canberra on Sunday at 5:50pm (weather permitting). The new interval training she has been doing the past fortnight has really sharpened her up. Her rider, Owen, commented on Tuesday morning “first lap galloped off the bit, then pulled really hard around the back and worked sharp the second gallop. Pulled up better today”. The rider’s comments are available after gallops on her diary on the app or website.
If she gets to trial on Sunday, we plan to race her at Moruya on the 19th.
She is loving her recovery days at the river. The photo above is her coming out of the water on Wednesday.

Desert Flame is entered to have her first race for our stable at Canberra on Sunday (Race 5 at 4:05pm). The track is currently Soft 7 and she had a very good sprint up this morning on a wet track so unless Canberra becomes significantly wetter before Sunday, we are happy to start her. She has done so many jumpouts she is not really first up in condition so she should be able to handle the wet track. Shaun Guymer is riding her and has a feel for her after riding her at the last jumpouts. There will be a couple of horses scratched who raced at Gundagai today. She has a good gate and we would like to take up a positive position.

Desert Flame had an improved jumpout over 1000m this morning. Shaun Guymer came down to ride her and he is wearing the Thorotek silks (green with white sleeves) in the video above. She wore the cross over noseband, which she has worn a couple of times at trackwork, and it helped with her breathing and allowed her to finish off better. We asked Shaun to really make her finish off and with encouragement, she ran through the line quite good today. We are just waiting on approval from the vet for her leg and she will be ready to go to the races off today’s performance.

Desert Flame had a jumpout over 1200m on Monday. Her rider is in the pink colours in the video above. We asked her rider and the rider of our other horse, California August, to ride them out and give them a good hit out.
Desert Flame was quick out of the gates and travelled well to the turn but she faded in the straight. We would have expected her to keep up with our other runner who won the heat. Desert Flame was making a lot of noise in her breathing when she went past the finish line. We already have a tongue tie on her so we had the vet scope her this afternoon to check her throat and airways. They are in perfect condition. Since there is no structural problem, we are going to try working her harder to really get her lungs pumping at trackwork more often and see if it is just a fitness issue since she is such a big girl.
Desert Flame had an improved jumpout today with the tongue tie on. Her rider is wearing pink in the video above. We continue to wait for the wound on her hind leg to heal before she can go racing but her fitness is improving with each hard gallop and jumpout which will allow us to start her up over 1400m.

Desert Flame had her first jumpout for the prep this morning at Moruya. Her rider is wearing blue in the video above. She jumped very fast and picked up the bit straight away. She travelled good throughout and just knocked up a bit in the closing stages. She will have a second jumpout on the 7th of September with her blinkers on.
