Kattegat

Kattegat had his first jumpout for the prep at Moruya this morning. He is in the pink colours, sitting in third position for the majority of the heat in the video above. He travelled nicely throughout the trial and accelerated well to the line to take the lead. His rider Maddy said he switched off as soon as he hit the front and he thought he had won. You can see his right ear flicking towards the other horse on the helmet cam footage as he waits for them to catch him again.

He wasn’t blowing too much after the heat and he is moving good this afternoon. We are planning on jumping him out again on the 6th of November.

Kattegat

Kattegat arrived back at the stables today (video above). He had a very wet spell with a huge amount of rain but it was a good break for him and he will get his shoes on tomorrow, ready to start working towards a Country Championships campaign.

Kattegat

When the Moruya races were abandoned, we entered Kattegat in the BM64 over 1400m at Kembla Grange on Saturday (race 7 at 4:19pm). Shaun Guymer is riding him and he finally has a good barrier. The track is currently Heavy, which he seems to be alright on from his recent starts.

Kattegat

Kattegat has been very fresh since his short break in the paddock. He went to the river last week and he was so excited, he was powering through the water and splashing everyone (video above). He is nominated for Moruya next Monday.

The video below is Kattegat leading on the bush trail last week.

Kattegat

Kattegat had another good race in town on Saturday. He had to make up significant ground as they rounded the home turn and he did a good job. He has gone to the paddock for a few days rest and will be back towards the end of the week. We are aiming to race him at Moruya on the 13th of July in the BM66 1425m. We want to drop him back to country grade to try to win another BOBS before the season is over and we want to try him over 1400m to see if he is a candidate to target the Country Championships next year.

The video below is when we dropped him off at the paddock yesterday:

Kattegat

Kattegat in nominated to race in the Highway Handicap on Saturday at Randwick. He had a solid gallop with Fantini on Friday and we have decided to add the tongue tie to his gear as he is making some noise. He cantered in the tongue tie this morning and he didn’t resent it. He will do his final gallop on Wednesday wearing it. The fields will be published on Wednesday morning.

Kattegat has come through his Queanbeyan race fine and went for a canter this morning. Click above for a video update.

Kattegat

Kattegat has been working great since his short freshen up. He is on the outside in the video above of this morning’s gallop.

We would like to target the Highway Handicap on 6th of June Class 3 over 1100m. We need to race once more to be eligible. We had planned to race at Nowra on 24th of May but that race is over 1200m. It would be preferable to race over 1000m so we have him nominated for the Class 2 1000m at Queanbeyan this Sunday 17th of May. Racing this weekend would also give him a three week gap into the Highway Handicap which would be good considering the float trip to Sydney can be taxing for the horses.

We will nominate Kattegat for the Class 2 1000m at Kembla Grange on Tuesday 19th of May as well and make a decision then.

Kattegat (aka Felix) has settled in great since arriving at Moruya. He has a energetic and happy personality and we are looking forward to getting him to the races on April 12th. Click above for video update.
