Moruya Cup Day 2019

It was an amazing day for the stable at Moruya Cup 2019. We had six runners and finished off with one winner, two 2nds and three 3rds, a fantastic result!

We had a huge group of owners in town for the weekend from all over the state and the golf day, Calcutta and race day were all a big success.

The Amazing Tahlia was our first runner in the 920m Class 1. She is only three years old and she has been improving her race craft each start. Brock Ryan rode her again and they finished in 3rd position, beaten 1.8 length. Both horses that beat her have already won a race in their careers and Tahlia is only a maiden so she did an excellent job stepping up in grade.

Sarzana also showed significant improvement, beaten only half a length is the $40K Country Maiden, finishing in 2nd place. She had a tough, front running ride but she stuck it out and held off all but one swooper.

Resort was up next, dropping back to 1650m this start. He was given a great ride by Robbie Brewer who had to really lift him to get him up and rolling in the straight. Resort finished off strongly into 3rd position, beaten less than a length.

The big race of the day, the Moruya Cup, was a thrilling race, with another very tight finish. Belle Tournure gave it her all and just got pipped on the post to finish 2nd, beaten 0.2 lengths. Mick Travers gave her a perfect ride and she showed amazing determination. She has had an unbelievable prep, stepping up in grade massively and taking her prize money since joining our stable up to over $72K (purchased for $20K).

The last race of the day saw Malachi Crunch and Airfree line up against each other over the 1200m. Both horses sat towards the rear of the field, pulled out in the straight and flew home. Malachi Crunch, the Moruya track specialist got the victory in the final stride and Airfree finished 3rd, only 0.3 lengths behind. Malachi Crunch picked up his 5th win and cracked $100K in prizemoney with this victory, a massive achievement for any horse. Airfree showed she has come back from her heart arrhythmia and is ready to win again.

The whole day was made up of close racing and tight finishes and we couldn’t be prouder of the effort all of our runners put in and the great work our team does every day. Congratulations to all our owners!
