Dragons Breath will race in the blinkers for the first time at Sapphire Coast on Tuesday. He has been practicing galloping past another horse at trackwork and not waiting for them when he gets in front (video above). All his fluffy Winter coat has been clipped off and he is ready to win at Bega.

Dragons Breath performed well at the jumpouts this morning at Moruya (his rider is wearing yellow in the video above). We will aim to get him barrier trialled next week so he can race at Moruya on the 13th of May.

Dragons Breath had an easy week after his race at Queanbeyan and he has bounced back great. He is an eating machine and he appears to be taking the racing in his stride more now that he has had a few starts. He is nominated for the 1200m maiden at Sapphire Coast on Saturday. The fields will be published on Thursday morning.

Boomahnoomoonah and Dragons Breath had jumpouts at Moruya this morning over 800m. They were in the same heat. Boomah has the rider with the yellow vest, pink cap, leading in the video below. Dragons Breath has the rider with the pink vest sitting in 3rd in the video below.
Boomahnoomoonah loaded into the barriers well and stood quietly in the gates. She mustered quickly on jumping and controlled the race, sitting in the lead. When the other runner came up on her outside, they were strong to the line together and ran the fastest time of the day over the 800m distance.
Dragons Breath was a bit nervous in the gates but he jumped quickly and was first one out. His rider asked him to settle in behind Boomah (for education) and when he did, he spat the bit out and didn’t want to try as much. It is good we now know that he prefers to be allowed to roll freely and not be restrained too much so we can race him that way this prep.
They both pulled up good after their heat. We will see how they eat up overnight and how they are moving tomorrow before locking in a plan going forward.
If Boomah is ready, there is a $40K Country only Maiden at Gundagai on the 13th or a 3YO 1000m Maiden at Kembla Grange on the 14th. These options are only a week away so if she needs more time, we will jump her out again and go to the much easier Maiden at Sapphire Coast on the 30th.
Dragons Breath needs to barrier trial before he is allowed to race so if he recovers quickly from today, we will trial him on the 15th at Canberra. If he needs more time, we will take him to Canberra on the 27th.
