Cosmic Barb will travel to Goulburn on the 11th of March for her second barrier trial. She had her first fast work on Friday morning since her trial at Canberra and she was keen to gallop. She is experiencing some stiffness as her body adapts to the harder work but we will press on and continue to build her education and conditioning. She is still lanky but she is not dropping any weight with the step up in work and she is still eating very well.
Cosmic Barb has come through her jumpout really well and is ready for her first barrier trial. She will be trialling after the races at Canberra tomorrow (Friday 19th February). It will be a big day for her with the float trip and the whole race day experience. The replay of the trial will be available on the Racing NSW website. Please click below for her video update:
Cosmic Barb had a nice jumpout at Moruya this morning. She is sitting outside the leader in the video above (rider in pink colours and blue cap). She is very calm and professional. She was excellent in the tie ups waiting for her heat and only hesitated a little to load into the barrier. She jumped quickly, travelled well and worked to the line nicely.
She returned to the stalls hardly blowing and not stressed by the jumpout at all. Her breathing was perfect, confirming she is over her recent cold.
We will see how she is over the next few days but she should be able to go straight to an official trial off her performance today.
Cosmic Barb is back to herself after fighting off a bit of a cold and she is ready for a jumpout. She will be jumping out at home on Tuesday morning. Her trackwork has been good the past week and she is much brighter and happier.
Cosmic Barb has been struggling to shake a cold and her cough is lingering at the moment. We had planned to jump her out this week but we will delay those plans until she is fully recovered. Her gallop on Saturday was a bit lack lustre so we will let her get back to full health and jump her out on the 10th of February. Otherwise, she is eating great and developing well physically with the work. She is building muscle over her hind quarters and although she is still very lanky, she has a lovely long stride.

Our three young fillies are all back in work and started half pace this week. In the video above Times Change has the rider with the blue cap with white pom pom, Cosmic Barb has the black striped cap and Real Salty has the blue and white cap.
Cosmic Barb missed a couple of days early in the week with a foot abscess (following all the rain we have had) but she caught up no problem and is progressing great.
All three girls have returned this prep much more focused and mature. They are building up their pace work and will be on the grass track next week.

Cosmic Barb had her first jumpout at Moruya this morning (she is leading in the video above). We are very pleased with her performance today. She was professional in the barriers and travelled nicely throughout the heat. The time was not very fast but her rider was waiting for another horse to come up with her in the straight to help with her education. When the second horse came near, she was asked to accelerate and she let down very well.
She will go to the paddock for four to six weeks now. She has been eating huge amounts of food but her condition has dropped off in the past week so it is time for her to have a break. She has a brilliant attitude and a lovely action and we are really looking forward to her coming back stronger after her break.
Cosmic Barb had another good week, continuing to improve and get stronger. She jumped out of the barriers this morning and of the young horses, she was fastest into a gallop and ran up the 400m very well. She is third from the camera in the video above (black helmet cover). We are aiming to take her to the jumpouts on the 6th of November where she will gallop over 800m.
The videos below are her 3/4 pace work on Tuesday and her trotting on the bush track on Wednesday morning. She is doing great and we are very pleased with her progress.

We couldn’t be happier with how Cosmic Barb is improving week to week. Each time she is asked to do something, whether it be her fast work, jumping out of the barriers or trying something new like the trail ride through the bush track, she takes it in her stride and builds on her previous experience.
On Tuesday morning she had her first gallop, running up the last furlong of her pace work. This morning she jumped out of the barriers with two other young horses and our stable pony and galloped 400m. She is second from the left in the video below with the rider in the black and white cap. She hesitated slightly as the gates popped but she lengthened into the gallop the best of the three young horses and was chasing down the pony (who is the horse on the right, closest to the camera). The pony is very sensible in the gates and very quick out so we use him to teach the young horse to be calm in the gates and to jump quickly and run straight when they come out.
Cosmic Barb will have a similar practice next week and she could be ready for a proper jumpout on the 6th of November if all continues to plan.
Cosmic Barb is coming along great. Click above for video update and below is a video of her first ever time jumping out of the barriers.

A two year old Bon Hoffa filly recently joined our stable. She has only done her breaking in and this will be her first prep. She has settled in well and is cantering each morning. She has a long stride and moves nicely under saddle (she is on the outside in the video below).
